Mickey Mouse Club

Donna Loren, Age 10, Singing
"Pennies From Heaven"

Donna Singing
"I Didn't Know the Gun Was Loaded"
March 7, 1957

On Donna's tenth birthday she performed two songs on the Mickey Mouse Club's "Talent Roundup", a weekly segment that showcased talented youngsters. Remembers Donna, "on 'I Didn't Know the Gun Was Loaded', Roy came through the saloon doors like I was after him; I followed, blowing the smoke away from my sixshooters and then said to him, 'when I order a chocolate malt, I don't mean vanilla'."

The show was directed by Sidney Miller, one of the original "East Side Kids" from Angels With Dirty Faces starring Humphrey Bogart and Pat O'Brien. This was also Donna's first meeting with Annette Funicello with whom she later co-starred in four films. Annette's first husband, Jack Gilardi, later became Donna's first theatrical agent.
